Don’t Pass Up Christmas Decor at Thrift Stores
Posted on by Brigitte in Uncategorized
Hello everyone, I hope you are all selling selling selling! I sure am. And I’m still making time to go to thrift stores too. It’s a must for me. My therapy. My escape. My zen.
For those of you that are not aware , Christmas items sell all year round on eBay. They do no doubt sell more at this time of the year. But don’t make the mistake of passing up items you find a thrift stores thinking it’s too late.
People collect Christmas themed items all year round. Ornaments, dishes, cards, villages, name brand pieces like Dept 56 and so on. I used to save my holiday themed items for the appropriate time of the year. Not a bad plan but not the best plan. I was waiting an entire year to get paid. Might I make more in December (or whatever month relates) ? Maybe….. But I’d rather get paid as soon as possible, taking a little less than wait and entire year with no guarantee I’ll make more. After all, more competition too. I can take that money and keep buying and make even more money. Then rinse and repeat. Rinse and repeat.
And buyers are smart too ya know. They know they will find bargains online AFTER the holidays so they will keep buying. And don’t forget, someone may very well have lost out on an item at auction or in your store and will have to wait until one is listed again.
I tell my friend whom I coach all the time, “Just stock your shelves, stock your shelves.” You want to have your shelves stocked for when the visitors come. We can’t control “when” they will come. But we “can” control having the item in stock “if” they come.
I hope you are all have a great holiday so far. Remember the important things in life and be as stress free as possible. For me that is going to thrift stores but sometimes it’s just sitting with a magazine and a cup of coffee.
Do whatever it is that brings you joy even if it’s only for a few minutes. It all adds up!

you are so right. i list lots of xmas items starting in late august…but…if they do not sell in the 4th quarter…i leave them in my ebay store. i am always amazed to sell an xmas mug or a music box in the summer months at full price. it is much more productive than 1..donating the unsold holiday item…or 2. delisting and storing…then relisting the next year.
found a store with a .25 mug sale yesterday and stocked up with a LOT of Xmas mugs.
And still on the holiday theme..i have a storage space where i put the “out of season” items that i am able to buy for clearance prices that i just save for listing next year. i love those 90% off after xmas sales… since most of what i sell is vintage…i don’t have that worry about it “going out of fashion.”
keep doing good work. i appreciate your blogs and encouragement. golli
