More Organzing Tips for You

Posted on by in Uncategorized

Well, we’ve been talking about motivation and organizing and all things related to getting our items listed on eBay.

We each have our own struggles in life. We all have different goals. Limited space in our home and so on. What it all comes down to is what works for YOU!.

I want to talk this time about some things to think about when it comes to space. Space does not have to be an entire room. It can be a closet. It  can be a shelf or two in that closet. It can be zones in a room. Creating zones is something interior decorators do a lot. Break up a space inside  a room into zones. For example, if you have a studio apartment or are doing this out of one room in your home, maybe you can dedicate the corner of the room, or a wall or closet area as a dedicated space for whatever it is you need. Be that inventory storage, your paperwork, shipping area.

Here is a photo of the right side of me as I sit at my computer.  I can’t have things out of site. However I hate clutter. So, I went and purchased three nice wicker bins, same size (you can probably find at thrift stores too) and labeled them. When I walk into the room with my bag of junk, I separate the items. Yes, sometimes there is not enough room. But most of the time it’s clothing and I can make it fit. Here is the photo;

The left bin has a tag that says “Susana.” She is the gal that does all my photography and listing for my vintage clothing. This is for stuff that goes to her. The middle bin says “men’s and plus size” which is for clothing of that category. I separate that for her also. The last bin says “Amazon” as I was dabbling with Amazon. However that should say “non clothing” and will soon. See, I’m even behind on stuff!

Take a look at your surroundings and start thinking about what you can do bring in some organization. Sometimes it’s inevitable that you may need to purge.  Do you have some things that are aren’t being used and you don’t really care for but they’re taking up space?  That’s real estate! How much of your monthly rent or mortgage is allocated to that space? Your monthly rent is based on the size of your home or apartment right? So you’re paying for that space. Make good use of it! Uh huh, when you think of it in dollars, it might just motivated you to get moving.

So come on, get moving!

    Storage is a big problem for us. We sell new and used sporting goods and to get the best buys, we purchase a lot of items when no one else wants them, such as skis and ski boots in the summer and baseball gloves and bats in the winter. We also buy new close-outs at the end of the season, from stores like Walmart and Shopko at discounts up to 90%. When we get a chance at that, we buy it all. As a result, we many times have to sit on merchandise for several months before the demand is there. It’s the best investment we can make, but it does create a problem of where to keep it all. I’m not as organized as you, I have stuff everywhere, in the house, in the garage, in an on-site storage shed and even at my daughter’s home. What I DO NOT DO, is rent any space because that would defeat the purpose. I’ve been very fortunate in being able to move it out when the seasons roll around. For instance, right now, the skiing season is winding down and our inventory is very low.
