People hide things in thrift stores. Take advantage of it!

Hello everyone, how are all of you?

Well, I’ve done quite a bit of thrifting this passed weekend. I was sick for about 2 weeks and had no desire or energy to do anything. Once I felt better I was craving thrift stores.

I wanted to share with you that you should always look in sections  you don’t always look in. Of course, I look everywhere in the store but perhaps you men don’t look in the ladies section or perhaps no one looks in the kids clothing section, etc. Well, what happens to me a lot is I find things that don’t belong in their proper area usually because someone has hidden it with the intention of coming back and they never do.

This passed weekend I stumbled upon some great finds this way. A lot of times things stand out to my eye because they are out of place and usually it is something pretty cool because someone else found it , had no cash at the time and thus tried to hide it to come back at a later time.  It’s as though someone else did the hunting for you!

I found a man’s disco shirt in the ladies tank tops and a woman’s bowling shirt in the mens Hawaiian shirts. Now, it could very well be the workers there too.  They get so much stuff that I wouldn’t be surprised if some of them just place things wherever.

You know my book is all about vintage so most of the time these are one of a kind items.  Other people find them too! If they don’t have the cash, they set them aside and hope to come back.  If you find it, well, then lucky you.

Next time you’re in a thrift store, try to take a glance in all the racks and even the shelves. A treasure may await you!

thanks, Brigitte! It’s a great tip, and I too have found stuff in the wrong place – I also work in retail, at Barnes & Noble, and we are forever putting books back where they belong – people walk around with a book and decide they don’t want it, and just leave it anywhere. Same at the thrift shops, I’m sure. I found a Dooney & Bourke purse in a thrift shop stuck in with all the cheap purses for $4.99. Keep the tips coming!

You’re right on this one. Sometimes its like God has just saved something for you and placed it in the spot you go!

I also noticed that GW tends to follow what I’m buying! For instance, I was buying wood items for a long time. I repainted them to sell. Their price went UP.
Then I was selling dishes, specifically Corelle, and they raised the price to $2 for one plate.
Then I was buying a lot of mugs and they raised them to $1 or more! Very frustrating! Lauren

Brigitte: Sorry you were sick and hope you are feeling much better now. Everybody’s been sick down here in Florida, too. It must be the changeable weather! I am loving all your tips. I’m presently liquidating an estate that contains a lot of things that thrift stores would have, like T-shirts, sneakers, vintage clothes and shoes. I’m following some of your very wonderfuld advice and so far — so good. Thanks for everything. Your tips are invaluable, especially to those of us who haven’t been at it that long. Keep up the great work! Jan

Thanks Jan! Appreciate it much. Funny thing, I found a retro bowling shirt (reproduction) with the name Jan on it that’s up for sale now.
