The right buyer will come along!

Posted on 17. Jul, 2010 by Brigitte in Uncategorized

Hello friends, first of all, my apologies for not posting in almost a month! Wow, time goes by quite fast. I’ve been keeping in touch with a lot of you on  the forum and invite all of you that have not joined us to do so. The forum link is to the right of this page.

What I wanted to talk about today is having faith that the right buyer will come along for your item.  Do you ever find something at a thrift store and you KNOW  you’ve hit the jackpot! You go home, list it right away and nothin’, nada, zip! What? How can that be? I have this happen all the time.

If you don’t have an eBay store and only do auctions this can be frustrating because you have to list over and over. I used to do that. Now with my store I can simply move the item from auction to fixed price and let it sit as long as I so choose.  And guess what? Things are selling! After a few of those I’ve gained faith that it really is just timing.  To think about it, how silly to expect something to sell the same week it’s up for auction.  People aren’t on eBay every day?

I like to use myself as an example. I don’t buy on eBay all the time.  When I need something I go to eBay first to check pricing and a lot of times I buy. Or, if someone’s birthday is coming up I’ll look on eBay to see if I can find something that person collects.  Obviously, that’s only once a year per person.

Personally speaking, I’ve sold a few things recently that I thought would sit on my shelf forever. As a matter of fact, I was thinking about donating them back. Lo and behold, they’ve sold.  That’s really motivated me and reminded me that we need to let eBay’s nature take it’s course.

I will say that when I do find items I speak of in my book, I usually do get a sale right away. Those are the in demand hot items! I ALWAYS look out for those.

But as a general rule, don’t worry about those unsold items. The right buyer does eventually come along!

That’s for sure Brigitte! I learned from my eBay mentor long ago (CJ, user ID xoxmas) that the right buyer will come along. It’s nice to wake up in the morning to see that four or five items have sold out of your store. An eBay store is a powerful tool for any eBay seller that may have lots of standing inventory. It WILL sell! In fact, CJ told me the exact same thing that you just told us, the right buyer WILL come along.
Here’s another funny thing that I find happens, and I don’t know if this is true for you too. When something has not sold for a while, and it has been sitting in the garage, and you see it and happen to touch it, it seems to sell within a week or two. Weird but true. I happens to CJ too.
Thanks for the post. Great post and very true.

    Hi, Brigette.

Good job on the newsletter as usual. I’ve been thinking about a store, but I keep hanging off. You’re right about things I think will sell immediately, set there for months. I run auctions and I also have about 30 items that are BIN. Of course, they renew each month, which means I pay each month. I have also starting paying the 10-cents to have some of my listings visible overseas. But I don’t know yet whether it’s worth the 10-cents as all along I’ve had buyers from Europe, Spain, Italy, Netherlands, Australia and Canada.

For the most part I use PP shipping or USPS Click and Ship. But there’s a real drawback in that you cannot but the “cheapest” shipping online. For the absolute “cheapest” shipping you have to go to the post office.

Sorry I’m off topic, it’s just one of my pet peaves.

No problem. I’m not quite sure what you mean on the “cheapest” shipping and going to the post. I don’t have to go to the post office anymore with stamps.com or even with shipping off of eBay. Actually, you get a discount online so it’s cheaper than the post office.

Do the math on having a store or not. Insertion fees are cheaper with a store for fixed price than without.

Ed, that is so funny about what you said about touching an item and then it sells! My mentor, Lynn Dralle, says the same thing happens to her.
Gotta go touch some of my older merhandise – LOL!

If something of mine has been sitting in my eBay store for a while, I’ll put it up for auction for 7 days. I don’t know that it improves my selling chances, but I feel like I’m doing something to promote my item and store…

Hi, Briditte: I’m getting a little discouraged. I haven’t sold anyuthing for three weeks, and I’m following your book plus doing other things as well. I have over 200 items for sale and I usually sell about 10 or so a week. Is it a very slow summer? I also went looking in Search in Ebay for an item I have listed, and it never came up. Did this ever happen to you? Thabnks for all your help and advice. Jan

Hi Jan, yes it happens to me and a lot of others. Summer is the slowest time on eBay for sure. Look at when you’re ending your auctions. Is the ending time when people might be out of the house since it’s summer? Do you have decent photos? etc. We’d have to take a peak to critique them. I invite you to join our forum and let us help you out. The forum link is to your right.
