What About Designer Clothing in Thrift Stores?

Posted on by in Uncategorized

Yes you can absolutely stumble upon some designer clothing at thrift stores. When I say designer I refer to names like Chanel, St John, Versace, etc. The really high end stuff. No they probably won’t be in abundance. Or, the thrift store in your area may set them aside in a “special area.” That’s okay, where you may spend $4 for a regular dress you might spend $40 for a designer one. All depends on your store.

But so much to dig through? Is there an easy way? There is for me. First of all, if you are not familiar with some high end designer names than just do a Google search for images of their labels. Secondly, frequent some higher end boutiques in the mall to “visually” see the different in fabric.

Actually, that is how I am able to spot a designer piece in thrift stores.  I do check labels but many times I’m scanning the aisle as I walk by. I have found (although not tons) Chanel, St John and many more this way. I can spot of high end piece very easily by looking at the fabric. Especially in the black clothing area. Who loves to look through black? Yuck. So many t shirts and dresses goodness!

However without knowing it at the time, I spotted some pieces that “didn’t fit it.” They stood out and just looked different. The fabric was high end, high quality and had a different look. Enough that it stood out.  I’ve successfully found designer pieces sometimes doing this.

Designer labels are almost a for sure sale and for high profit! Easy to ship. You can offer free shipping, etc.

I challenge you on your next thrift store trip to do this. Even just for practice. See if  you can spot some fabrics that look different and that stand out. Let me know how it goes!

Thanks, Brigitte, I’ll be on th lookout. Vintage designer handbags can be found at thrift shops as well. I found a vintage Gucci handbag at Goodwill for $5.99, and a vintage Bellestone alligator bag at Salvation Army for $3.50. Not to mention the occasional Coach. Vintage bags are easy to spot by the styles and quality of the leather. They’re out there.
